Patton's High-speed Ethernet Extender Now Shipping Worldwide

TMCnet Managing Editor

The latest high-speed Ethernet extender solution from Patton (News - Alert) has officially begun shipment around the world. The CopperLink 2174 Ethernet extender product series was initially unveiled by Patton and processed for orders in September of this year, and hundreds of kits have already shipped, according to the company.

A recent announcement revealed that Patton’s factory is “operating at full capacity: building extender kits and fulfilling orders received from at least a dozen countries.” This news follows Patton’s other recent announcement concerning its partnership with Latin American open source innovator, PaloSanto, at elastixWorld last week in Mexico.

Patton’s product has engineered a device that achieves downstream line rates up to 168 Mbps and extends Ethernet segments up to 10,000 feet. The CopperLink 2174 operates over copper twisted-pair, coaxial or CAT-5+ cabling to eliminate the expense and hassle of replacing installed cable infrastructure when inter-connecting IP-enabled devices.

Johnnie Grant, product manager for the CopperLink brand, stated, “It’s another industry first for us. Once again Patton has taken Ethernet farther and faster than ever before. But that’s not all. Offering multiple physical media options with extreme speed and distance profiles, we’ve created the world’s most versatile Ethernet extender.”

The CopperLink 2174 provides four Ethernet ports with a built-in switch to aggregate and transmit IP traffic from four sources over a single Ethernet connection. It enables network engineers to leverage existing cable installations to convert legacy CCTV circuits to IP, replace serial RS-232/485 circuits with Ethernet connections, and improve the Ethernet speed and distance performance of CAT 5/6/7 segments.
