Hatteras Networks (News - Alert) and Quantum Communications have deployed Hatteras’ Mid-Band Ethernet solutions, according to a Hatteras announcement today. The deployment is expected to change Quantum’s copper lines into Ethernet superhighways. Quantum Ethernet First Mile (EFM)—the name of the new service—will nearly double the reach of Quantum’s fiber-based Ethernet services. This will allow Quantum to reach hundreds more business customers with the copper infrastructure that is already in place.

 

The HN4000 and HN400s are being deployed by Quantum to deliver a highly resilient, retail and wholesale service in three Oregon markets: Bend, Redmond and Prineville. Quantum will also be introducing the service in Metro markets along the I-5 corridor in Oregon and Washington.

Quantum’s EFM service uses existing copper to offer guaranteed bi-directional speeds ranging from 2Mbps to 45Mbps.
