Ethernet Extenders: The Sensible Alternative
TMCnet Web Editor
Ethernet
Ethernet Extenders eliminate the need for installing expensive 802.3 repeaters, twisted pair (CAT5/CAT6) cabling, or fiber and associated fiber transceivers. Ethernet Extenders provide the most cost effective solutions for any LAN extension project, including Wireless Access Point (News - Alert) installation, POE (Power over Ethernet), IP
Ethernet extenders allow users to expand their Ethernet connections beyond the 328-foot (100-meter) Ethernet distance limitations. Ethernet extenders can establish long-range, high-speed data communication links between geographically separated LANs or LAN
One solution to the distance issue and to supporting POE at the same time is to use an Enable-IT 820 unpowered Ethernet extender. It was designed to carry Ethernet data over the standard 2-wire pairs (pins 1/2 and 3/6) and POE power over the spare pairs (pins 4/5 and 7/8).
