CWCEC Adds 10 GigE Support on CHAMP-AV5 DSP via Critical I/O's 10 GigE Interface

Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing (CWCEC) has announced the addition of 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10 GigE) support on its dual Intel (News - Alert) Core i7 CHAMP-AV5 digital signal processing (DSP) 6U VME board via Critical I/O's 10 Gigabit Ethernet XGE XMC card.

The integration of 10 GigE into embedded DSP subsystems – designed for demanding military signal processing applications – is simplified thanks to the support for Critical I/O's high bandwidth network mezzanine card, said company officials.

Critical I/O is partnering with Curtiss-Wright (News - Alert) by supporting the Critical I/O XGE 10GigE interface on its high performance, dual Core i7 DSP product, said Jack Staub, president at Critical I/O.

Staub said that the 10 Gigabit Ethernet is an ideal interface technology for next generation military systems as it is part of the broad-based Ethernet standard, which ensures a long life and compatibility with future systems.

Critical I/O's 10 GigE XGE products provide 10GigE Ethernet connectivity to embedded systems with the ultra-high performance characteristics that are seen as essential for data intensive real-time systems.

To the VME64x form factor standard, the CHAMP-AV5 multi-processing board brings the floating-point performance of the Intel Core i7-610E processor, said company officials.

Company officials said that with a pair of 2.53 GHz dual-core Intel Core i7-610E processors, the CHAMP-AV5 delivers performance rated up to 81 GFLOPS.

“Critical I/O's XGE 10GbE XMC card enables system integrators to add 10 GigE networks quickly and easily into their CHAMP AV5-based DSP subsystems,” said Lynn Bamford, vice president and general manager at Curtiss-Wright Controls Embedded Computing.

CWCEC is a business group of Curtiss-Wright Controls and is a designer and manufacturer of commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) VME, VPX, OpenVPX and CompactPCI (News - Alert) products for the rugged deployed aerospace and defense market.

Last month, AgustaWestland selected Curtiss-Wright Controls to provide a custom Vibration Management System (VMS) computer for use on its Rotorcraft Technology Validation Programme (RTVP) demonstrator.

In related news reported by TMCnet, Patton (News - Alert), a multi-national organization that designs, develops, and manufactures electronic communications equipment, recently announced it would integrate the eXtremeDB IMDS across its range of IPLink IP router and SmartNode voice-over-IP (VoIP) technology.
