Galazar Offers Ethernet Access Solutions for Small-Form-Factor Platforms

Galazar Networks Inc. has launched Ethernet Access Solutions for Small-Form-Factor Platforms.

The
new product line is aimed at satisfying the growing demand for Ethernet access.

Galazar Networks Inc. is one of the leading semiconductor vendors focused on Ethernet, DS1/E1, DS3/E3 and SONET/SDH access solutions for carrier grade Ethernet and Multi-Service line cards.

Packaged in an 11x11 mm 204 pin BGA and with measured power dissipation below 500 milliwatts, the solutions, PicoNode and PicoNodePDH, are targeted at small-form-factor protocol conversion applications.

The PicoNode family supports cost-effective single-channel mapping of Ethernet to multi-channel PDH or to single-channel SONET/SDH via industry standard GFP, VCAT and LCAS protocols.
PicoNodePDH, which supports a 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN port and multiple DS3/E3 or DS1/E1 WAN ports is a miniaturized, ultra low power framer capable of mapping Ethernet traffic into bonded PDH payloads for transport in copper-based telecom access networks.
PicoNodePDH, which supports both Frame Mapped GFP and HDLC-based packet encapsulation to provide compatibility with existing and emerging network equipment from multiple vendors, also offers the integrated Link capacity adjustment scheme (LCAS) that protects against member link failures and also provides a mechanism for increasing or decreasing the bandwidth of any virtual link by changing the number of members.
PicoNode \ supports a 10/100/1000 Ethernet LAN port and a multi-rate OC-3/STM-1 or OC-12/STM-4 WAN port, and is a miniaturized, ultra low power framer capable of mapping Ethernet traffic into SONET/SDH payloads for transport across fibre-based telecom access networks.
Using standardized Virtual Concatenation, Groups (VCGs) may be provisioned within the SONET/SDH payload.
Similar to PicoNodePDH, the integrated Link Capacity Adjustment Scheme (LCAS) in PicoNode protects against member link failures and also provides a mechanism for increasing or decreasing the network bandwidth allocated to any virtual link by changing the number of members.
PicoNode supports both Frame Mapped GFP and HDLC-based packet encapsulation to provide compatibility with existing and emerging network equipment from multiple vendors.
PicoNode and PicoNodePDH enable single-channel EoS and EoPDH protocol converters for connecting Ethernet equipment to legacy networks without the need for legacy networking equipment, which dramatically reduces the network costs, power and space requirements of carrier grade Ethernet applications such as terrestrial distribution for mobile WiMAX (IEEE (News - Alert) 802.16e) and Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM, IEEE 802.ah) where integrated Ethernet Operation, Administration and Maintenance (EOAM) support is important for remote management as outlined by the Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert) (MEF).
Size and cost advantages offered by PicoNode and PicoNodePDH will also benefit more traditional applications, where standards compliance and reliability are important.
