One Size Does Not Fit All in the ERP Software World
By Tammy Wolf, TMCnet Web Editor
What do your shoes and ERP software have in common? Well, when it comes to ERP software implementation, “one size fits all” does not exist for organizations, which must find the perfect fit for their ERP software investment.
As reported by TMCnet, before committing to an ERP software solution and a vendor, companies must recognize the challenges that deploying an ERP software system into their place of work may bring. In doing so, companies should aim to find ERP software that delivers tangible business benefits, cost reduction, productivity improvement and measurable bottom-line results.
ERP Software is designed to provide a central information system across an organization's lines of business. Today’s ERP systems use the Internet for online, real-time delivery and are entirely customizable allowing mid-sized organizations to capture, process and report on business transactions in the way that makes the best sense. ERP software allows companies to automate their financial accounting, supply chain, manufacturing and other mission critical functions.
Panorama Consulting Group Business analyst Greg Griffith has some valuable advice for companies seeking rollout strategies for ERP software implementation. In a shoe store, it would be to go with the right size and the pair that feels most comfortable. And the ERP software world, it would be to pick one that suits your company best, as some ERP systems are a better fit for particular companies over others.
"Engage with great consultants who have 'been there and done on that' on multiple ERP implementations and who will listen and work side-by-side with you to get a great outcome," said Griffith, who added organizations should carefully evaluate their approach to implementation – whether all at once, or as a more “hybrid” method.
Luckily, there is a checklist to follow before implementing an ERP software solution into your business:
- Define the business objectives
- Define infrastructure
- Select an ERP vendor
- Initiate a project management framework
- Construct the implementation schedule
- Appoint the development team and support personnel
- Manage the implementation if a modular solution
- Test the ERP system
- Train staff to use the application
- Appoint maintenance personnel and ongoing support staff
- Conduct a systematic review
