Spirent Communications (News - Alert), a developer of network testing software, has announced the release of its new Temeva cloud-based suite that offers a number of applications for testing network traffic and virtual network functions. It can also provide figures that help businesses plan for expansion by offering details about their capacity for traffic flow.

The suite comprises the TrafficCenter, MethodologyCenter, and CloudStress applications to complete those various tests. Users can access any Temeva applications from the cloud and expect their post-testing data to remain saved in a Spirent cloud-based repository. Users can access any of their past and current data from such data stores for comparison through built-in analytics.

TrafficCenter begins the lineup by offering tests of network connectivity and design. It scans Layer 2 and Layer 3 network traffic to show live statistics about the health of an overall network, which can receive a “Pass” or “Fail” grade and which can see detailed analysis in post-testing reports. Administrators can customize their tests by mixing traffic flows and redirecting traffic; admins can then see the health of their redirected connections as TrafficCenter points out its successes and flaws. Users can also attempt to improve the health of their networks by following the recommendations of pre-configured topology profiles included in the core Temeva setup.

MethodologyCenter addresses the needs of users who employ virtual networking setups and make use of virtual network functions. In much the same way as its TrafficCenter brethren, it can display the real-time health of a network and offer suggestions about how to make a company’s setup run well and achieve a passing grade. For companies that want to make the most of their new-found software-defined networking, this tool could prove an invaluable asset.

Finally, CloudStress rounds out the mix by testing the computing speed, memory and storage capacity, and network input/output capacity of cloud networks and virtualized infrastructures. This can help businesses see how fast their connections to the cloud work in the present and how optimization could boost them in the future. It also determines how a realistic load on the system can hinder its performance. Companies that use many cloud services each day may rely on those applications for important work. Furthermore, their expansion as businesses could place a higher stress on their cloud systems that were built before expansion began. CloudStress can show exactly how a system can cope with present demand and how it will fare in the face of future expectations, all with the aim of protecting the integrity and speed of each employee’s important tasks.

All together, these applications under the Temeva umbrella can provide businesses with everything they need to load test their existing networks. Each part of the whole suite has its own part to play in the optimization of business computing, no matter their use of local wide area networks or cloud and virtualized systems.
