Indonesia telecom provider Indosat Ooredoo inked a deal with IBM (News - Alert) to deliver solutions on the IBM Cloud, giving businesses an edge in streamlining processes and improving productivity.

The five-year partnership, valued at $200 million, will help build an integrated command center to serve local clients of both companies.  Businesses in the area will now be able to monitor and manage their operations and information technology, all while building IT skills and capabilities.

“This collaboration shows how IBM’s expertise, technology and services can help Indosat Ooredoo and Lintasarta (News - Alert) lead market change in Indonesia while also transforming their existing operations,” said Martin Jetter, senior vice president, IBM Global Technology Services in a press statement.

Indosat (News - Alert) Ooredoo is a major telecommunications provider in Indonesia, offering services for mobile phones, fixed voice services, and as well as multimedia and data communications services.

According to Redwing market data, Indonesian telecoms sector is first and foremost a mobile market, with 278 million mobile subscribers. This number far outweighs 9 million fixed lines and 12 million fixed-wireless subscribers. The market, overall, is heavily saturated with mobile technologies. This collaboration aims to give cloud communications a boost.

“Use of smart mobile devices is becoming pervasive, opening up enormous opportunities for local businesses – so we are excited to be working with Indosat Ooredoo and Lintasarta to help clients tap into the power and flexibility of cloud-based solutions and digitally transform their businesses,” Jetter said.

According to Odin, research shows that business applications, or software-as-a-service, will soon become the fastest growing cloud category in Indonesia, growing at a CAGR of 43 percent. What’s more, business applications, such as file sharing and online backup are currently the most commonly used applications in Indonesia and adoption is expected to increase.

“Our new Cloud Data Center gives customers a local onramp to IBM Cloud services including moving mission critical SAP (News - Alert) workloads to the cloud with ease,” said Hamilton Ratshefola, IBM Country GM in South Africa. “It also gives customers the added flexibility of keeping data within country which is a key differentiator for IBM.”
