Pandora Networks Can Now Bridge VoIP & PSTN

By Johanne Torres, TMCnet Contributing Editor

On-demand IP communications service provider Pandora Networks announced this week that it selected VegaStream's line of VoIP gateways as an integral part of its Worksmart on Demand IP Communications deployment system.

The new partnership will offer Pandora Networks' Worksmart customers the benefit of having their VoIP communications integrated with their existing PSTN infrastructure. The integrated system automatically performs a cost comparison analysis of incoming calls and routes them either through PSTN or VoIP, accordingly. Customers will be protected against lost calls in the event an Internet connection goes down, because Worksmart can automatically switch from VoIP to PSTN as needed.

"We looked for a partner that would compliment the quality of services offered within our On Demand IP Communications environment," said Jon Beck, chief operating officer at Pandora Networks. "The VegaStream award winning gateway products will offer our resellers and their customers, with a bridge to the IP world, a choice of telephony interfaces. VegaStream products will lower the barrier to entry for businesses that want and need the productivity benefits and cost benefits from VoIP and IP Communications solutions but also want to maximize their existing telephony infrastructure investment. The addition of VegaStream products to the Pandora Networks deployment method portfolio strengthens and broadens our market opportunity."

VegaStream made news back in January when it announced it would supply hosted applications service provider SDC Development A/S of Denmark with its Vega400 gateways to provide touchtone telephone banking services to financial institutions across the Nordic region. SDC Development would first host the telephone banking system for Norwegian banking group Terra Group AS at its data center in Ballerup, north of Copenhagen.

Local Norwegian calls to the Terra Group telephone banking system would be routed to the hosted application in Denmark where the VegaStream gateway will then convert them to IP traffic for processing by the system which is built on Microsoft .Net and Intel Host Media Processing (HMP) software platforms. The system generates its outbound responses and messages in IP, which again are converted by the VegaStream gateways to standard telephone audio.
