Lync is Microsoft's (News - Alert) enterprise-ready unified communications platform, connecting people that use Windows, Mac OS X, Windows Phone, Android and iOS. Designed to provide a single consistent client experience for presence, instant messaging, voice and video, Lync enables rich communication with hundreds of millions of people around the world, be they other Lync users or Skype users.
In all, the unified communications platform offers a number of advanced features aimed at the enterprise, including persistent chat, extensive privacy settings, device switching during voice calls, enhanced 911 services and much more.
Lync has gained a large customer base since its release and is currently in use by major organizations including Sprint (News - Alert), Swisscom, the Dominican Republic Ministry of Education and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, to name a few. Recently, Genesys announced Lync integration with its customer service platform, allowing companies to unite contact center interactions and enterprise communications.
