The Year Ahead - with AudioCodes's Alan Percy
TMCnet recently asked some of the leading lights in the industry for their thoughts about 2011 and what’s in store for the year ahead.
Here’s what Alan Percy (News - Alert), director of market development at AudioCodes, had to say.
What was your company's greatest achievement in 2011?
Percy: 2011 has been a very interesting year for us at AudioCodes (News - Alert). One of our biggest challenges has been breaking out of the perceived image that AudioCodes is a gateway company. While gateways are certainly important and a major portion of our 2011 revenue, we've successfully now entered into the enterprise session border controller and wireless client markets. This gives us a much broader offering that will allow us to grow as the market transitions to pure SIP technologies and becomes more mobile.
What are your business's goals for 2012?
Percy: We plan to continue with significant focus on unified communications with Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync and other applications. We have an excellent opportunity to provide connectivity and integration capabilities for those businesses making the transition to unified communications. Our goal is to be the dominant supplier of the surrounding equipment needed to deploy unified communications.
How would you describe your outlook for business and the economy at large heading into 2012?
Percy: 2012 will continue to see market instability, but as the European debt issues are addressed, we hope to see greater stability and with that some confidence in the future. Our expectation is that will bring confidence needed to make long-term investments in communications applications and equipment.
If there's one thing you'd like to see happen related to business in the year ahead, what is that one thing?
Percy: An important goal for our nation is affordable universal access to broadband Internet. This has incredible potential to change the way we educate, train, provide health care and access to government services. I'd like to see demonstrable evidence that we're making progress on this during the year ahead.
If 2011 was the year of cloud and/or the year of the tablet, 2012 will be the year of…
Percy: unified communications and mobility. I expect to see UC&M dominate the discussions at most of the industry events this year. I know from our own experience at AudioCodes, it has completely changed the way we work, communicate and collaborate. Like when e-mail was first introduced into businesses in the 1980s, unified communications will transform the way businesses communicate. Businesses will either adopt UC&M or be put out of business by their competitors that have adopted it.
