Enterprise Mobility: Adapt or Get Left Behind

By Stefanie Mosca, TMCnet Managing Editor

As enterprises move towards the mobile evolution, enterprise mobility has become essential for communication between employees and partners whether working on site or on-the-go in remote locations. It is more important to be connected now than ever and with the progression of mobile devices, mobility is more accessible than ever.

SMBs and enterprises are realizing that it’s important to adapt and incorporate mobility into their businesses in order to maintain both a mobile and virtual work environment.

A recent Enterprise Communications and Collaboration Market Analysis report published by Synergy (News - Alert) Research Group stated that the fasted growing segments in 2010 were videoconferencing, telepresence systems, enterprise social networks and collaborative workgroup software, all which Thrupoint offers and leverages. This is a clear indicator that businesses are indeed adapting to enterprise mobility.

According to the report, although top-line revenue growth was modest year over year, there were standout segments which grew six times faster than total growth.

The report also noted that Videoconferencing and TelePresence grew 35 percent year over year and, for the first time, represented a double-digit percentage of Enterprise Communications (News - Alert) & Collaboration spending.

Other segments that clocked in strong growth included IP Phones, IP-PBXs, Presence/IM Servers, Web Conferencing, and Videoconferencing Infrastructure (MCU and non-MCU). As an indication of shifts in spending, sales to Room-Based Video Conferencing systems exceeded those of PBX (News - Alert) sales for the first time.

"In 2010, we saw accelerated spending on IP Telephony, Web/Audio Conferencing, Videoconferencing and a variety of Collaboration tools, especially in those organizations with 100-500 users. And to no surprise, the strongest growth was measured for those solutions that provided a fast return on cost reductions and productivity gains," said Jeremy Duke, founder and principal analyst of Synergy Research Group. He added that, "over the next five years we believe Service Providers and Mobile Operators could significantly drive a much higher growth level for this market if they choose to aggressively deploy and market UC/Collaboration as a cloud-based service offering."

While most businesses have caught onto the trend of enterprise mobility, some have yet to adapt.  It’s clear that for those who haven’t, with an increase in mobile development and learning, enterprise mobility is inevitable to the successes of businesses of the future.
