Samsung (News - Alert) Electronics Co. Ltd and Green Hills Software jointly announced that Samsung KNOX Hypervisor has successfully cleared the Authority to Operate (ATO) test, performed by the U.S. Marine Corps. Following the development, Samsung KNOX Hypervisor has now been approved for use on the sensitive enterprise networks operated by the U.S. Department of Defense.
The development encompasses Samsung Galaxy line of smartphones and tablets, and signifies a successful strategic collaboration between Samsung Electronics, Green Hills Mobile, systems integrators, mobile network carriers and the U.S. Department of Defense.
Injong Rhee, senior vice president of KNOX Business, IT & Mobile Communications Division at Samsung Electronics, said, “This industry first for Samsung and Green Hills is further evidence that the Samsung KNOX portfolio provides the scalable security solutions that address requirements ranging from personal consumer privacy to the highest levels of government and regulated industry certifications.”
Samsung KNOX Hypervisor is a foundational firmware layer residing below the operating system in a mobile device. This additional layer allows for data protection and data isolation, thereby creating an additional level of security certified for improving application-level sandbox mechanisms. Samsung KNOX Hypervisor ensures complete data security on a device, either personal or enterprise owned by securing information not only on the device but across the enterprise network.
Samsung KNOX Hypervisor is a Type-1 mobile virtualization solution, which was developed by Green Hills Software and then integrated with the mobile enterprise solutions suite, Samsung KNOX.
