Ready to Send Enterprise Fax over IP from a Mobile Device? Now You Can

By Susan J. Campbell, TMCnet Contributing Editor

How many times have you walked down the sidewalk or the corporate hallway and passed an individual talking on a smartphone? Like most people, these instances are too frequent to count, and these devices are becoming an integral part of the core business process. With that in mind, how does the enterprise fax fit in? This communication channel is still critical and enterprise fax over IP is gaining more notice, but does it blend well with mobility?

A recent Fax Solutions blog on the OpenText site evaluated this concept, examining three different ways in which mobility trends continue to impact organizations. For one, mobile devices continue to use a wide range of differing operating systems.

Second, employees are increasingly bringing their own devices into the workplace, spawning the BYOD phenomenon. And, finally, consumer applications are increasingly mobile and business users expect business apps to do the same. In other words, users are expecting to be able to leverage enterprise fax over IP on their mobile devices.

According to Gartner (News - Alert) predictions, 90 percent of organizations will support corporate applications on personal mobile devices by 2014. Along with these trends, the need for mobile access to RightFax technology has become a major priority. As a result, OpenText partnered with Cortado (News - Alert), a provider of virtual desktop technology, to make it possible.

While integrating enterprise fax over IP for a wide range of devices is nothing short of a challenge, the Cortado Connector for RightFax helps to simplify integration with the Cortado Corporate Server. By utilizing Cortado software, the module effectively picks up the Cortado application output files and sends them through the RightFax server.

This integration allows users with a tablet or other mobile device to send documents via fax from within the office environment or when working remotely. Cortado also enables the user to retrieve those documents from a file-share on the local network or from the local device. This helps to eliminate security and compliance issues the customer may face when trying to send an enterprise fax over IP while on the go.

The benefits associated with this enterprise over IP capability includes sending fax documents from a mobile device, the ability to send any document as a fax, reduce data traffic by eliminating central downloads, create fax documents on the fly, retrieve fax status notifications on the device, and trigger and fax database reports in real-time.

Essentially, this partnership enables professionals to send enterprise fax over IP from a mobile device at any time and from any location, extending the capabilities of the mobile experience.
