OpenText Delivers Alchemy Edition of Document Server

By Jacqueline Lee, Contributing Writer

We always hear that the corporate offices are going paperless. Anyone who has tried to organize his or her office, however, knows that paper is still alive and well. OpenText’s Document Server, Alchemy Edition, gives businesses a chance to cage the paper tiger. Firms will save money, reduce costs and ensure regulatory compliance in the process.

The Alchemy upgrade includes a new, patented feature called Single Click Entry, which ensures that users can rapidly index a variety of documents without pre-defined OCR templates or costly investments in document capture solutions. With Single Click, users identify the format of the data rather than trying to remember where the data occurs in the document. This requires no manual keying and no error sheets, and users experience fewer data errors.

With document workflow, users can easily route documents among users so that steps in the review and approval process are eliminated. Routing can be based on metadata, reducing process cycles and eliminating more errors.

“Businesses of all sizes are being required to be accountable for an ever increasing number of documents being generated and received within their organization,” said Matthew Brine, General Manager, OpenText Fax and Document Distribution. “OpenText Alchemy builds on the core tenets of simplicity, usability and reliability to deliver a range of new capabilities in a simple Web interface that further streamlines the process of managing the entire data and document lifecycle, from capture to destruction.”

Another new feature of the Alchemy edition is document retention, which retains or disposes of documents according to both internal policy and external regulatory requirements. With automated document archiving and destruction schedules, companies are protected against document compliance and audit issues.

Both Forrester and Gartner (News - Alert) have named OpenText a leader in the Enterprise Content Management market. Forrester, in particular, noted that OpenText addresses foundational content with the strongest integration support of any tested vendor for Microsoft (News - Alert) Sharepoint.

“They are doing well and are prepared for the future with a clearly articulated vision,” said Gartner of OpenText and other leaders. “In the context of ECM, they have strong channel partners, presence in multiple regions, consistent financial performance, broad platform support and good customer support.”
