By Madhubanti Rudra, TMCnet Contributor
The Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) in Barcelona proved to be a wonderful launch pad for innovative products and services relating to mobile communications.
A provider of software and systems for voice, messaging, mobile Internet and mobile advertising, Comverse used the show in Barcelona to demonstrate the benefits of mashing-up location with many forms of mobile messaging, including text messaging, multimedia messaging and visual voicemail.
Besides an enhanced communications experience, there are numbers of practical benefits of sharing your location details with your mobile phone contacts.
For example, mobile users can receive a map of the real-time location of the person sending them a voice, text or multimedia message. Or the exact location of the sender of voicemail can also be traced by the receiver of a voicemail. Location-Aware (News - Alert) Messaging enables mobile users to share their location with contacts.
The company made use of the map data from NAVTEQ to stage the demonstration. NAVTEQ (News - Alert) is the leading global provider of digital map, traffic and location data for in-vehicle, portable, wireless and enterprise solutions.
The integration of geographical information about the caller with messaging services is sure to take communication to a new level. According to the captains of the industry it is not far away, when merger of geographical information with mobile services will become a must-have feature for the mobile users.
“Merging advanced geographic digital information seamlessly with Comverse (News - Alert) messaging and visual voicemail adds value to mobile communications,” said Daphna Steinmetz, Chief Innovation Officer at Comverse. “This attractive service may become a ‘must-have’ for many mobile segments, such as business travelers and tourists, adding insight and a deeper level of sharing to communication as we know it today.”
