Virginia State Public Safety Communication Improved By PlantCML

By Carolyn J Dawson, TMCnet Contributor

PlantCML, a global leading crisis communications and response technologies for public safety, federal and business markets provider, has announced the launch of its Emergency Notification Solution.

The Emergency Notification Solution, after a year-long effort, is all set to be implemented throughout Virginia. Through its advanced emergency notification technology, PlantCML’s (News - Alert) solution will augment the public safety communications across the state of Virginia, especially the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the City of Richmond, and the Town of Vienna.

Earlier this year, the State of Virginia and the VDOT had deployed The Communicator!NXT solution in order to execute its list-based communications with its personnel. The solution has been successfully built, tested and exercised for both, emergency as well as non-emergency notifications scenarios.

In September 2010, the Richmond’s existing system, The Communicator! NXT emergency notification system was upgraded to PlantCML’s latest version 4.2.0 release along with the migration of the GeoCast Web Solution, which enables highly targeted, map-based alerting of communities, to version 1.7. The Town will also have the added benefit of the MassCall option which will allow the city officials to securely and easily offload high-volume communications to the PlantCML’s SAS (News - Alert)-certified hosting facilities, in case of emergencies such as evacuation orders or fire. Local resident can also sign up online proactively for the service to receive alerts via the Self-Registration Portal (SRP). The SRP gathers vital, critical contact information such as mobile phone numbers and SMS addresses. Vienna will be the next to implement the service.

In a release, Vice President and General Manager of the Notification Solutions and Services business unit at PlantCML, Bob Freinberg, said that, “Collectively, these Virginia public safety operations are taking all the necessary measures to ensure their communications readiness and reach in every possible contingency. I would like to take this opportunity to commend them on their use of emergency notification technology to ensure the safety of personnel, community volunteers and constituents. Congratulations on a job well done.”

Richmond’s Coordinator of Emergency Management, Anthony McLean, added that, “The Communicator! NXT and GeoCast Web solutions have served us well in years past. By upgrading these critical systems, we are able to take advantage of the latest features and functionality available and with little to no impact on operations.”

Assistant Field Operations Manager, VDOT, Earl Sharp (News - Alert), added that, “The Communicator! NXT solution allows us to rapidly alert and, in certain situations, mobilize critical personnel. We are quite pleased with the results we have seen so far, and are continuing to add new notifications to the system on a regular basis.”
