Easing Enterprise E911 Management: Outsourced Services a Viable Option
when adopted throughout a large, distributed enterprise that has a legacy PBX, E911 can become highly complex. Maintaining an E911 system can be complicated by legacy PS-ALI accounts and frequent moves, adds and changes, placing an enormous burden on IT and telecom departments who often lack the training or manpower to handle E911's sensitive and potentially life-saving data. For that reason, some E911 solution providers offer professional services along with their products to ease enterprise E911 adoption. Consider two examples from RedSky Technologies, Inc., a Chicago-based E911 solutions provider.

Bolstered by RedSky E911 Manager, Avaya Wins IP Telephony Contract
What Avaya faced was a big job, and one critical component of the job was to support so-called "enhanced 911," or "E911" services provided by a public safety answering point, or "PSAP." E911 is a technology that uses location-based services to pinpoint where distressed callers are when they contact emergency services providers – helping those responders locate distressed parties faster.

RedSky Deploys E911 Solution at Large, Multi-Site Healthcare Facility
The move made legal sense, since Minnesota state law long has required – as more and more states do – that multi-line telephone systems provide a call back number and emergency response location. It also makes practical sense, as more and more businesses rely on IP-based communications for everything, from e-mail and phone calls to faxing and emergency response systems. In Park Nicollet's case, Project Manager Scott Jensen set out to find an E911 partner that could address 25 sites.

In an interview printed in full below, Maier talked to us about the fact that cost-savings really only tell part of the story here – that E911 Anywhere Hosted is tailored to comply with each state's enhanced 911 laws and that it integrates with any telephony platform.

The E911 Issue

By some estimates, more than 60 million Americans working in or visiting office buildings, retail complexes, city centers, manufacturing facilities or educational facilities do not have the same level of 911 protection that they have at home. This is true despite the fact that:
  • News stories about E911 and Voice over IP have raised awareness to unprecedented levels
  • Many states require businesses to provide E911 protection for their employees and the FCC is setting policy at the national level.
  • Failure to take action carries the potential for civil and criminal liability
That’s why RedSky has a full range of solutions to help organizations capture, manage and deliver E911 location information. To learn more about RedSky and keep up-to-date on the latest trends and legislation in the E911 space bookmark this page.
