Despite this year’s harsh economic conditions, some businesses in the IT sector saw an uptick in revenue. That’s no surprise when the services those companies are providing are designed to ensure the safety and well-being of employees, a top executive with an E911 hosted solutions
provider, told TMCnet in an interview.

offering, which is designed to help smaller businesses meet in-house safety needs, will help propel the adoption
of Enhanced 911, or E911 services, he said.

Rich Tehrani: Smartphones continue to rise, find their ways into offices and homes alike. Who will dominate that market and why?
William Svien (pictured below): I believe that the provider will determine who will dominate the market place. Smartphones will continue to meld into a commoditized product with feature similarities from phone-to-phone. Price points and network features will ultimately determine market dominance.
RT: We entered 2009 in a recession and now we’re seeing signs of the economy picking up. How did the slow economy affect demand for your products and services and what are you anticipating in 2010?
WS: 911 ETC’s revenue is slightly up for 2009. The company is anticipating a much better year in 2010. With its re-launch of RedConnect, 911 ETC anticipates many more SMB clients throughout the United States will choose to cost effectively implement an E911 solution.
RT: What are some of the areas of market growth in the next few years?
WS: Enterprise E911, Next Generation e911 and Broadband services.
RT: I understand you are speaking during ITEXPO East 2010 in Miami, to be held Jan. 20 to 22. Talk to us about your session or sessions. Who should attend and why?
WS: The federal government has mandated that E911 services be available for every VoIP deployment. But, with E911 legislation pending or in place in nearly half of the states, and the new federal legislation introduced this year, waiting for a complete transition from TDM to VoIP to occur before implementing a solution is not a viable option. In fact, many organizations seeking VoIP solutions have subsequently discovering their legacy TDM systems also are in need of E911.
In addition, in multi-tenant buildings, merely identifying the building address is not sufficient for the emergency system to work effectively. This session will address how E911 services can best adapt to the current telecom environment to address E911 requirements while providing a flexible solution for today’s hybrid communications environments. RT: Please give me one outrageous prediction pertaining to our markets for 2010.
WS: Broadband services will grow more than 50 percent in 2010.
