Deploy and Manage Background Images with Solution from VoIP Integration

By Rich Steeves, TMCnet Web Editor

If your company utilizes Cisco (News - Alert) Unified Communications, and you use a variety of Cisco IP phones, you are probably looking for deployment and management solutions that can help you make the most of your equipment. One company that specializes in deployment and management solutions for Cisco phones is VoIP Integration and, with software packages like Background Deployment 3.1, the company can provide you with exactly what you need.

Background Deployment is a utility that allows you to deploy background images to Cisco phones from anywhere with network connectivity. The tool provides the ability to create groups of phones to receive images. These groups can encompass individual devices, device pools, locations partitions, calling search spaces and extensions or extension ranges.

The tool includes a basic editing interface that allows for cropping, zooming, flipping and rotation of images to allow you to configure the images to the correct file format and dimensions for the phone in question. There is also a scheduling engine that allows you to deploy the image to all of your phones quickly and easily.

In addition, the tool allows for personalization, which forces IP phones to request a background image from the HTTP server that runs in Background Deployment. In order to download the image, this requires the phones to have a network connection to the PC running the solution. The background images do not need to be uploaded to the TFTP server, which allows you to test images before users deploy them to their phones.

One other feature of the tool is the key press method, which allows a user to change images by pressing a combination of keys on the phone. These images must be placed on the TFTP server so the phones can retrieve the image directly from the call manager server. No matter which method you use, the Background Deployment tool makes the process quick and easy, allowing for the personalization of IP phones, letting you go above and beyond their standard capabilities.
