As enterprises grow and generate more information, data management systems become ever more crucial. But what happens when that business is spread across multiple locations, such as satellite offices, or distributed across a network of mobile workers using a variety of devices to conduct business from remote locations? The shape of business is changing every day, and as physical location becomes less and less of a limitation thanks to technology, services like data management must evolve to accommodate changing environments.
Hosted and cloud-based data management solutions are now being released to help businesses stay on top of all the information flowing in and out on a daily basis, ensuring that it is organized, accurate and secure. Following its recent acquisition of C2C Systems, one company has launched an update to its information management solution. Barracuda recently announced version 7.0 of ArchiveOne, an enterprise-level information management for midsized organizations. The ArchiveOne version 7.0 Advanced Discovery application gives business users the tools to identify and manage data regardless of where it is saved across an organization. By hosting the service and making it available through the Web, users can locate and archive, copy, delete, and retain company data more efficiently.
One feature that any effective data management solution needs is discoverability—meaning that when a user submits a query for information within the system, it should be easy to access all relevant data and should take no time at all. Corporate legal users in particular often have a hard time getting the information they need. Solutions like ArchiveOne enable these users to operate eDiscovery using familiar terminology through intuitive Web-based interfaces.
"Previously the IT department was tasked with discovery requests because only they knew where data resided and how to find it," explained Rod Mathews, general manager of storage at Barracuda. "Our ArchiveOne platform changes this by enabling business owners such as legal and HR departments to perform their own queries. As a result, eDiscovery is simplified, better results can be obtained, and costs can be reduced all while freeing up IT to handle other mission-critical tasks within the data center."
Sorting information and making it readily available to business users is vital, as it allows the information to be used to make decisions and draw important conclusions pertaining to operations. Data management solutions should be a cornerstone of any enterprise today.
