Yammer Announces Integration with Salesforce.com

By Raju Shanbhag, TMCnet Contributor

Facilitating activity streams from Salesforce.com (News - Alert) to appear inside Yammer, Yammer has announced a new integration with Salesforce.com built on the Force.com and Yammer (News - Alert) platforms.

Helping employees and executives alike to stay on top of critical deals, campaigns, and customer relationships in Yammer's dynamic, secure environment, the integration allows users to follow any native Salesforce.com object such as an opportunity, lead, campaign, event or contract in the Yammer Activity Stream. Yammer an enterprise-wide social platform allows CRM activity to be easily socialized and discussed with colleagues across the entire company, whereas Salesforce.com is primarily used by employees in the sales department.

“Yammer is a superset of business activity feeds," said David Sacks, founder and CEO, Yammer. "As more enterprise applications add activity feeds, it becomes important to bring them together in a central place where it's easy to collaborate. The alternative is that every departmental app becomes its own social network, creating more silos across the enterprise. Yammer is in the best position to do that as the best-of-breed enterprise social network.”

Enabling any business application to publish activity stories into Yammer as long as it has the consent of the company administrator, this new integration is powered by Yammer's Activity Stream API. Yammer's API is analogous to the Facebook (News - Alert) API that allows consumer applications such as Zynga to push activity stories into the Facebook News Feed and is based on an extension of the Open Graph Protocol originally developed by Facebook.

Recently, the company announced it was named a Leader in enterprise mobile collaboration by Forrester Research (News - Alert) Inc., a leading independent research firm, in a new August 2011 report: "The Forrester Wave(TM): Mobile Collaboration, Q3 2011." According to Forrester, vendors in the Leader category have a strong mobile current offering, proven strategic intent with mobility, and significant market presence. Yammer was a leader in the current offering category, and scored among the highest in smartphone platforms.
