NetSuite Releases Wholesale Distribution Edition

By David Sims, TMCnet Contributing Editor

Targeting medium-sized wholesalers and distributors, CRM and ERP vendor NetSuite (News - Alert) Inc. has announced its Wholesale/Distribution Edition.

Key features include Advanced Inventory and Order Fulfillment, Demand-based Inventory Replenishment, Transaction Forms Assistant, Matrix Item Assistant, Vendor Returns, and Wholesale / Distributor Customer Portals.

"Growing and medium-sized wholesale and distribution companies have the same challenges as their large business counterparts when it comes to business processes," NetSuite officials say, adding that these mid-market wholesalers and distributors are "continually pressured by the complex requirements forced upon them by larger trading partners, global competition, multiple global locations, small margins, and ever more demanding customers."

The new NetSuite offering is described by company officials as "taking the input of existing wholesale and distribution customers to deliver the first integrated on-demand suite designed specifically for their unique business process needs."

In other words, the system gives companies CRM linked with back-office inventory management, fulfillment and accounting processes, all within a single business application.

Company officials say some features on the new edition are tweaked for medium-sized distributors, including Advanced Inventory & Order Fulfillment, which automates the order fulfillment lifecycle: "Distributors can convert leads to opportunities to orders, orders to shipments, and shipments to revenue. NetSuite supports complex needs with multiple price levels, discounting, multi-location inventory, bin management, kits and assemblies, multiple units of measure, lot tracking, serialized inventory and specific costing, matrix items and bar coding."

There's also Demand-based Inventory Replenishment which is based on sales history and inventory reorder points and means reorder levels can be dynamically calculated, based on historical sales or seasonal demand. Average lead time, historical or seasonal-based sales demand, and number of days supply to stock are used to dynamically set reorder point and preferred stock level for each item across each warehouse location.

In August NetSuite and CyberSource (News - Alert), a vendor of electronic payment and risk management products, announced that CyberSource has become NetSuite's global payment strategic partner.

NetSuite officials say they have "integrated support for CyberSource's global payment acceptance services, risk management solutions, and payment security services," which they contend gives NetSuite customers "a strong set of payment tools."

CyberSource eCommerce payment management services available to NetSuite's customers worldwide include support for credit cards, debit cards and electronic checks, fraud prevention services and token-based, secure storage service, which NetSuite officials say "helps keep sensitive payment data out of merchants' daily business operations."
