Sugar CRM has joined the Open Invention network and been granted a role as a liscensee with the orginazation. OIN was formed to promote Linux by using patents to create a collaborative environment. It promotes a positive, fertile ecosystem for Linux, which in turns drives innovation and choice in the global marketplace. This helps ensure the continuation of innovation that has benefited software vendors, customers, emerging markets and investors.

In becoming a licensee, SugarCRM (News - Alert), has joined the expanding list of companies that recognize the importance of participating in a substantial community of Linux supporters. Sugare already produces and provides CRM solutions via the cloud, and this opportunity provides them another network to share their ideas and experiences with others in the field.

“We believe that by becoming an Open Invention Network licensee, we encourage ongoing development of open solutions and promote further innovation, which benefits everyone," said Larry Augustin, chief executive officer of SugarCRM, in a statement.

The move for SugarCRM is due in part to the tremendous growth they’ve seen over the past year."In the third quarter 2010, SugarCRM increased revenue by 60 percent. The continued growth we are seeing demonstrates the fact that businesses of all types are demanding more flexible, intuitive and open solutions," said Augustin.

OIN has amassed a broad portfolio of patents, including patents held by nominees on its behalf. These patents are available to all licensees as part of the patent portfolio that OIN is creating around and in support of Linux. By joining OIN’s ranks SugarCRM shows that its willingness to share openly will offer fantastic opurtunities in the future.
