Cloud-based communication applications and services provider, West IP Communications, recently announced the release of MediaCloud, which offers a new approach for deploying enterprise-wide Microsoft (News - Alert) Lync environments. This solution creates a hybrid environment in which core Lync infrastructure and applications are stored locally, in the enterprise, while the media, edge and federation parts of Lync are hosted in the cloud.
“Deploying an enterprise wide unified communications platform remains a top priority for large-scale enterprises, and Lync is the platform of choice for many,” said Jeff Wellemeyer (News - Alert), EVP and CTO at West IP Communications, in a press release. “MediaCloud provides a hybrid approach to the on-premises and hosted Lync options, empowering an enterprise Lync deployment by offering the speed, performance, reliability and scalability of a cloud-based solution while simultaneously delivering the command, control and integration capabilities demanded by today’s enterprise IT organizations.”
MediaCloud not only improves Lync security without additional equipment or software, it also aims to improve network performance by offloading certain tasks to West IP Communications' (News - Alert) globally distributed data centers. Also, since much of the Lync platform still runs locally, IT administrators can better manage local systems while still enjoying complete visibility in terms of cloud applications and services.
“West IP Communications has taken an exciting and logical step forward in the hybrid cloud space, expanding the traditional model for Lync deployments,” said Bill Haskins, senior analyst for UC at Wainhouse (News - Alert) Research. “By moving the media processing, edge, and federation services into the cloud, they are creating an optimal environment in regards to latency and performance."
In other recent West IP Communications news, the company recently announced that it’s MaxxConnect SIP trunking services are now certified compatible with Microsoft Lync 2010. This means that MaxxConnect services are capable of working with the Lync platform to provide voice capabilities with flexible trunking options.
