Analyst: Unified Communications Market is Bright

By Amy Tierney, TMCnet Web Editor

While many sectors suffered some tough times during the global economic downturn, the Unified Communications (News - Alert) market also experienced some bumps. According to a new report, worldwide revenue for the market was expected to dip four percent in 2009.

But there’s some good news on the horizon. According to Infonetics Research’s (News - Alert) report, the UC industry is projected to soar by more than 100 percent over the next four years and will top $1 billion by 2013.

One factor that will likely contribute to the increase is the willingness of companies to purchase new equipment over the next several years. While companies trimmed costs and kept operating expenses low - particularly last year – many firms postponed large purchases, such as UC products and services.

“Against the backdrop of significant enterprise spending reductions on all kinds of products, the unified communication market is holding up remarkably well,” Matthisa Machowinski, Infonetics Research's directing analyst for enterprise voice and data, said in a statement. Perhaps it shouldn't come as a surprise, as these tools are designed to allow users to communicate and collaborate more effectively.”

One area that is expected to see a rise of interest is the conference call services and collaboration market, experts said. Providers of conferencing services, such as Eagle Conferencing, a company that offers audio, video and Web conferencing services, said that the technology helps break down the barriers of physical distance, time constraints  and high travel costs.

In fact, a separate study by Wainhouse Research found that an increasing number of users are use Web conference calls for training and educational purposes. The report found that the educational and training portion of the Web conferencing market reached about $680 million in 2009 and is projected to grow to more than $1 billion by the end of 2014.

Whether it’s Web, audio or video conferencing, conference calls let people to reach out in a way that overcomes geographic challenges, yet delivers a personal touch. When face-to-face contact isn’t possible or cost prohibitive, conferencing fills the void.

Eagle Conferencing can fulfill a variety of customer needs.. A subsidiary of EagleNet companies offers a worldwide network connection infrastructure and a capacity of more than 10 billion minutes.
