Conferencing Gone VoIP: TurboMeeting Upgrades to Please All Markets

By Jaclyn Allard, TMCnet Web Editor

RHUB Communications (News - Alert), Inc., a real-time collaboration appliances provider, today, March 1, released the latest upgrade in its flagship line of Web conferencing remote support appliance, TurboMeeting. Founded in February 2005, RHUB launched with the idea to eliminate the need for external subscription-based Web communication services and to move all of those capabilities into an on-premise device. RHUB’s TurboMeeting line is just that, a hardware-based solution that acts like a server for the applications that enable conferencing, remote control and other peer-to-peer or one-to-many connections.

With its recent upgrade, now TurboMeeting 4.3, users can conduct Internet-based audio conferences with over 200 participants from both PC and Mac computers with the addition of high-definition VoIP capabilities. The user’s experience is revolutionized with TurboMeeting 4.3’s high-definition VoIP softphone:

  • Doubles the voice sampling rate rom 8KHz of traditional phones to 16kHz – improved sound quality
  • Provides echo-cancellation, firewall traversal
  • Automated audio device detection and reconnection
  • Permits recording of entire Web conferences
  • Includes recording converter to convert recordings to a variety of standard formats (FLV, WMV, AVI)

As Larry Dorie, CEO of RHUB, recently said in a press release, “Simply put, TurboMeeting 4.3 is the strongest, most feature-rich enterprise real-time collaboration offering available. Adding high-definition audio will make our users’ collaboration even more compelling – and all with the complete security control and reliability our appliances are known for.”

Recently, I was able to chat with Larry Dorie via a phone interview and utilizing RHUB’s conferencing technology. During our conversation Dorie not only updated me on TurboMeeting 4.3’s high-definition VoIP softphone’s capabilities, but discussed newest features of its online Web conferencing service, The online Web conferencing service, based on TurboMeeting technology, has also been updated with all the new features of TurboMeeting 4.3. GoMeetNow gives users provides highly secure, cost-effective collaboration services, such as Web conferencing, webinar, video casting, and free audio conferencing for a low monthly price of $12.95 a month.

RHUB’s ability to conduct a conference with over 200 participants, but also service those small and medium-sized businesses was a main point of conversation. It is without a doubt that the utilization of Web meetings in businesses, big and small, continues in its upward trend. Analysts at Ovum have anticipated that in the next five years, Web meetings will grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 18 percent. The growth in Web meetings makes sense, says Ovum (News - Alert)  “with globalization and home-based working, staff and businesses spread all over the shop….” Webex and a number of other larger providers have robust web meeting products, but they are very costly for a small business that needs to communicate with clients and/or employees across the country. RHUB has an answer for all business sizes, as well as industries.

This brought us to our next topic of conversation: What industries do you see benefitting best from your conferencing solution? Dorie mentioned that one of the industries that could easily benefit from its TurboMeeting solution would be the healthcare industry, for several reasons and because of several features. But as he emphasized, “First, secure, Internet security issues are on-going. Slowly, but surely, people come to realize that they have to pay attention to security, and the more that they do, the more they are going to want, in some cases, a secure solution. Like two doctors collaborating and looking at patient data.”

All in all, RHUB has something to offer to its customers, big or small, in healthcare or any other industry, and with more than a million end users, their testimonies and continued use speak for RHUB and the innovative conferencing technology it brings to the table.
