MRV Unveils Latest Carrier Ethernet Access Platform for Communications Provider Customers
By Rajani Baburajan, TMCnet Contributor
MRV (News - Alert), which supplies optical communications network infrastructure equipment, integration and managed services to communications provider customers, has just added a new product to its MRV's OptiSwitchOS900 portfolio.
The OptiSwitch OS940-M, the latest multi-functional carrier Ethernet access platform, provides high service scalability and simplicity for mobile Ethernet backhaul and business Ethernet applications, enabling new revenue opportunities for communications provider companies, company officials said.
"Service providers are looking for multi-functional and cost-effective intelligent Ethernet demarcation devices that support multiple deployment scenarios while delivering a dramatic improvement in network maintenance costs," said Zeev Draer, vice president, strategic marketing for MRV 's Optical Communications Systems (News
- Alert) (OCS) division, in a statement.
Draer added that OptiSwitch OS940-M fits the bill perfectly for communications provider customers with its Hybrid NID functionality that simplifies the monitoring of Ethernet services and simultaneously offers a comprehensive set of multi-layer, hardware-based OAM and measurement tools to ensure the delivery of the service.
The Hybrid NIDs support the features and functionality of conventional NIDs. They also provide carrier-grade, Metro Ethernet Forum (News - Alert)-compliant Ethernet service demarcation along with operations, administration & maintenance (OAM) tools. These features ensure strict SLA-compliant service offerings for communications provider customers, while also reducing operational expenses.
The OptiSwitch OS940-M targets a wide range of applications including wholesale and retail Ethernet services, mobile Ethernet backhaul, and broadband backhaul services.
For wholesale and retail Ethernet service, the 10GigE Hybrid NID provides a single platform via a single demarcation entity and enables communications provider customers and operators to share the same device and perform isolated management and continuity of the Ethernet services.
For mobile Ethernet backhaul, it enables 10GigE mobile backhaul multi-cell site aggregation for migrating Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) traffic over Carrier Ethernet network and for data offloading.
For broadband backhaul services, OptiSwitch OS940-M acts as a 10GigE demarcation and first mile mini-aggregation device for multi-tenant and multi-dwelling applications, company officials said.
