New Robust Communication Product: Allworx' 48x Phone System

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of PAETEC (News - Alert) Holding Corp., Allworx upgraded its current award winning suite of IP-based phone systems with the addition of its 48x phone system and System 7.2 Software Upgrade. Allworx’s (News - Alert) 48x is the largest system to date that can support up to 250 employees per site, thus providing an ideal solution for companies ranging from mid-market enterprise space to small businesses.


The 48x IP-based phone system provides unparalleled features compared to traditional systems. The advanced phone system allows for voice and data convergence over a single network, whereby businesses can experience maximum network efficiency by taking advantage of the powerful features and easy-to-use management system for internal staff. The system makes use of routing based connection rather than physical connections, hence the user can easily move around the building without losing connectivity. Also, users can make efficient use of the system at home or hotel room driven over an Internet-based connection, thus enabling connectivity while on-the-move.

In a press release, Chris Hasenauer, president of Allworx, said, “The 48x is the latest addition to our already robust line of communications products. As our customers grow, the 48x can expand with them while keeping the same intuitive interface and simple management that Allworx users have come to expect.”

The in-built dual T1/PRI interfaces within the 48x system supports any mix of voice and data connectivity, and provides the perfect solution for businesses that are too large for a single PRI but not large enough to need an enterprise-class server, a rather expensive investment.  Additionally, Allworx also includes four conference bridges with support for up to 30 users per conference and a maximum of 60 simultaneous users. The rack mountable system includes three FXO ports and five FXS ports with full support for all Allworx VoIP phone. The system’s energy efficient design ensures maximum energy cost savings.

Allworx System 7.2 Software Upgrade features include full support for 48x phone systems with enhanced phone Plug-N-Play feature. It provides improved E911 support with the creation of multiple E911 CID numbers. The multi-site statistics displays the amount of traffic generated between sites where as the multi-site diagnostics enables testing of multi-site functionality between different sites. The upgrade also supports SNMP Agent and provides constant Web server connection architecture updates.
