Colocation: Telehouse Celebrates a Successful First Half of 2011, Filled with Many Events

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

Telehouse kicked of 2011 with a bang – opening its third colocation facility, hosting a series of webinars and offering free “Bootcamp events” – and the colocation company is showing no sign of slowing down in the second half of the year.

“The number of events has increased because of our continuing global facilities and supporting IT services expansion, with the most recent local debut of newest New York Chelsea facility,” Fred Cannone (News - Alert), director of sales and marketing for Telehouse, told TMCnet. “Over the years Telehouse pioneered hosting a variety of our own events, while also attending and/or exhibiting at different industry events around the world.”

“These events provide opportunities to not only inform and educate folks about Telehouse in order to generate clients and partners but, most importantly, to develop a community forum that informs and educates about those technologies and services that help our audience become more effective,” he added.

This year, Telehouse welcomed 2011 and its new Chelsea facility with Telehouse’s popular two-hour “Breakfast on Broadway” event, renamed “Breakfast at Chelsea” and for the first time located at a different Telehouse colocation, 85 10th Avenue. The event, which typically attracts a crowd of 30 to 45 people, is ideal for networking, learning and information sharing, according to Cannone.

Typically, two speakers present on a “hot” topic in the IT or telecom world. Microsoft (News - Alert), Time Warner Cable, TAMP Systems, Vello, Lexant, and many others have joined the list of speakers at previous breakfast events. Recent topics have included cloud computing, disaster recovery and business continuity and low latency and 4G solutions.

Telehouse also offers free Bootcamp events, normally held twice a year, that are usually four to five hour events that include breakfast, lunch and  a group of speakers who address specific aspects of the topical focus  that concern IT professionals. Popular topics in past years have included SAAS, VAAS, managed IT services, data and network security, cloud computing and power management.

In 2011, the colocation company also began hosting educational webinars for clients and prospective clients, the first one titled “Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning” and the latest one entitled “Peering 101.”

“These free webinars are intended to educate those unfamiliar with the subject, as well as keeping knowledgeable folks informed on the subject’s latest trends or news,” Cannone said. “The objective clearly is to help individuals, organizations and processes to be more effective.”

Tomorrow, May 26, Telehouse will hold a webinar about disaster recovery and business continuity planning. Telehouse’s partner, TAMP Systems, has been working with the colocation company to provide customizable packages for business of all sizes and from all industries.

“When a disaster strikes, companies are normally unprepared,” Cannone said. “Our keynote speaker, Carmine Colletti, addresses this issue and how it should be of greater importance. Our goal is to provide information to those who are unaware of the options they have when it comes to protecting their business. We hope they can work with us to come up with a viable solution.”

Telehouse does more than just host events at its facilities, however, as it is also an eager participant at many industry events. This week, Telehouse headed to Washington D.C. for International Telecoms Week (ITW), a week that serves as a meeting point for the global wholesale telecommunications community to buy and sell both voice and data products and services.

Telehouse is also exhibiting at ITW, at booth No. 740, along with Telehouse America and Telehouse UK professionals who will be on site to educate attendees about the colocation company’s unique offerings, according to company officials.

When asked what Telehouse’s favorite event has been so far, Cannone said it was the launch party for Telehouse Chelsea as it was the most sign cant event this year to date.

“Telehouse was able to take customers and prospective customers on a tour of this impressive 60,000 square foot facility,” he said. “We now hold various different events here, and our Internet exchange NYIIX is currently being offered in all three New York locations: 25 Broadway, 7 Teleport Drive, and 85 10th Avenue. We have also seen a lot of carrier activity:  Abovenet (News - Alert), Level 3, and First Telecom are all confirmed carriers.”

So what does Telehouse have in store for the second half of 2011?

“Telehouse continues to look for events which have an audience they can learn from and educate with their own knowledge,” Cannone said. “We hope to stimulate the interest of companies who can benefit from using our services. We want to continue to promote Chelsea and Telehouse Istanbul along with our new products: hardware sales, modular data center, and disaster recovery packages.”
