It seems that talk about nearly any technology these days inevitably stops briefly on the Asia Pacific market to acknowledge that, yes, growth is excellent there. This usually has to do with largely with China’s developing, industrious market that demonstrates explosive growth in the case of cloud computing, mobile and more. However, Asia Pacific doesn’t begin and end with China.

Recently, the Vietnamese branch of U.S.-based virtualization software company VMware released research showing that Vietnam plays a strong role in Asia’s technology explosion, too, particularly in terms of cloud computing. The research, which was released as part of the VMware Cloud Index 2013, shows that as much as 83 percent of Vietnamese enterprises consider cloud computing a top priority, while 67 percent said it has already made a significant impact on business transformation.

Other findings include the fact that 41 percent of firms in the country hope to develop cloud computing in the future with the ultimate goal of taking the third place of the Asia Pacific region after the Philippines and Thailand.

More importantly, though, business demand has acted as a catalyst in this shift toward cloud computing. Indeed, 88 percent of businesses in Vietnam said they will be prioritizing meeting higher demands of customers and enhancing customer satisfaction over the next 12 months. In aid of this, 80 percent of surveyed companies said they rely on IT staff to apply technology in business. Similarly, 89 percent consider IT an important factor in making big changes, aside from adding business value.

“Cloud computing now becomes a decisive trend in the IT field and we realize the rapid increase in the awareness and virtualization applications in the Vietnamese market,” said Huynh Phuc Yem Quan, general director of VMware Vietnam, in a statement.

The VMware Cloud Index was conducted by Forrester (News - Alert) Consulting in 10 Asia Pacific countries. This year marked the first time Vietnam and the Philippines were included in the survey.
