While you may have heard of the countless benefits migrating to the cloud can bring to your business, including allowing employees to access confidential data from anywhere at anytime securely, reducing costs and streamlining operations, are you aware of how many organizations have already made this transition?
According to a recent report, “The Future of Cloud Computing Survey 2013” released in conjunction with North Bridge and GigaOM Research, almost 75 percent of companies now use the cloud. Surveying nearly 855 business IT professional and vendors, results are clearly highlighting that the cloud has never been as crucial to firms worldwide then it is right now.
Acquia, a cloud hosting provider, has seen users turn to the cloud in very large numbers. Last year, there were 18 billion requests to begin the migration to the cloud coming in each month. In spite of the fact that this group forecasts the public use of the cloud to decline from 39 percent to 34 percent within a five-year time span, this decrease will actually prove advantageous for businesses looking to adopt a hybrid version of the cloud. In fact, hybrid clouds are expected to grow from 27 percent this year to approximately 43 percent in five years. Software-as-a-Service (Saas) offerings will also see a surge, coming in at 63 percent versus 55 percent in 2012.
“Clearly, even in the third year of our survey, we're still very early in the cloud computing revolution. Yet the cloud formations we identified in last year's survey continue on an unstoppable rise. Self-employed consumers and businesses are taking the lead, and in many instances, regardless of IT,” said Michael Skok, general partner at North Bridge, in a statement.
Additionally, results from the just released report are proving that these days organizations are not as worried about security-related obstacles that can arise when leveraging the cloud yet still consider security to be one of the major obstacles that must be overcome in relation to cloud computing.
Skok added, “And to realize the promise of the cloud, there is a unmistakable call for the industry as a whole to help reduce complexity, and provide better interoperability.”
