The call center solutions business is one that is constantly changing, with companies hiring and letting go agents on a routine basis to reflect those changes. Sometimes the changes in the market affect the people who are being called almost as much as the call centers. This is certainly the case in Wisconsin starting today. A new law takes effect on August 1 that changes the state’s Do Not Call program, and it appears to change it for the better for those who don’t want to be receiving calls from telemarketers especially.
Starting today, Wisconsin citizens will no longer have to register their number every two years in order to receive protection from the state from unwanted telemarketers. Those who were not on the Do Not Call registry before are also getting a bonus. When someone used to register for the list, they had to wait until the beginning of the following quarter. Now the registration will be effective the very next day.
“The changes to the state’s Do Not Call law will benefit consumers,” Sandy Chalmers, division administrator for Trade and Consumer Protection, said in a recent statement announcing the changes. “Consumers can sign up once and not have to worry about whether their registrations will lapse or whether there will be a three-month delay before they are protected under the program.”
Wisconsin has made the registrations on the Do Not Call list permanent, by removing the registration process to the FTC’s (News - Alert) federal list. At the same time, numbers that were previously on the list will now be automatically transferred to the nationwide list.
Call centers in the state are likely going to have to tweak the way they get customers and earn revenue with this change in the law. Some centers are already changing revenue streams, including marking in-bound calls as that much more important.
