AT&T (News - Alert) officials have announced that they will be bringing 140 new jobs to their location in EastPark—a 1,000-acre industrial park in northeastern Kentucky that is home to Cintas, the Kentucky Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Ashland Community and Technical College, and Ohio Valley Wholesale, among others. The call center has already added 195 new workers to its rosters so far this year. After the upcoming expansion, the site will employ approximately 550 workers.
According to April Kaull, of WOWKTV, those who are hired for the new EastPark positions will endure an “extensive” seven-week training program. The jobs have yet to appear on AT&T’s jobs site, so details about pay, benefits, which positions will be available, what the hours will be, and which products new hires will be selling are, at this time, unknown. Interested parties should continue to check AT&T’s jobs site at www.att.jobs.
Hood Harris, the president of AT&T Kentucky, is enthusiastic about this new growth. “These new jobs demonstrate our commitment to providing top-notch service to our customers nationwide, as well as good jobs in Eastern Kentucky,” he said. Hood added that the company plans to do more than just bring jobs to the area. “We will continue working with state legislators to update telecommunications laws to encourage even more investment in advanced wireless broadband technology across Eastern Kentucky.”
Carrie Stambaugh of The Daily Independent reports that the legislative changes sought by AT&T would “end a requirement that basic phone service be provided by wire or wireline connections.” She notes that there is a great deal of criticism from those who live in the rural and mountainous regions of the state. Harris assures that his legislative vision is one that will ensure that no one will be left behind. Kentucky, Stambaugh notes, is only joined by West Virginia in this requirement.
