Mitel Wins Contract from PWGSC On Behalf Of Foreign Affairs and International Trade

By Shamila Janakiraman, TMCnet Contributor

Mitel (News - Alert) a provider of unified communications and collaboration (UCC) software solutions announced that it has been awarded a contract by PWGSC on behalf of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Stephen Beamish (News - Alert), Mitel’s vice president of corporate marketing and strategic alliances said in a release, “Mitel’s Freedom architecture provides a flexible IP telephony infrastructure and seamless communications across all locations, as is required for an organization of this size and scope.”

“By choosing Mitel, this is now possible. But, perhaps more importantly, DFAIT also has the capability to add new UC functionality for its users and scale to the needs of the organization,” Beamish added.

It was revealed that Mitel will be deploying its Freedom architecture which is an advanced IP telephony solution based on a single software stream. This is expected to offer DFAIT the required flexibility to connect its global users besides being able to add new capabilities as part of its future communications needs.

This new contract encompasses the deployment of a new communications infrastructure which will support DFAIT’s international users in its Canadian missions, consulates and embassies across the globe.

Mitel was selected based on its flexibility of deployment options that will cater to all the needs in these multiple locations and support virtualization also. Mitel offers an optimized UC solution that supports a truly virtualized environment, said officials.

The Mitel solution has been designed to serve the needs of DFAIT with several elements. The Mitel Communications Director software can be deployed at multiple locations, integrated and managed as one system. It can be deployed on multiple hardware platforms across the organization depending on DFAIT’s requirements. The solution suits virtualized data centers present in foreign embassies.

The Mitel Communications Director features Dynamic Extension and hotdesking capabilities in order to ensure that calls are delivered, regardless of the user’s location. Users can select up to eight devices in their personal ring group enabling calls to a business number to be delivered on a mobile phone, home phone, remote office, or on any other device. The Mitel NuPoint Messenger IP is optimized to relay, store, and retrieve messages on a phone, fax machine, pager or PC, added officials.

Mitel announced recently that Mitel Unified Communicator (UC) Advanced software will be available on the iOS mobile operating system for Apple (News - Alert) iPhones and iPads.
