The Philippines’ Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda), is a Philippine government agency under the Department of Labor and Employment responsible for managing and supervising technical education and skills development in the Philippines. Having recognized a strong need for more call center agents in Negros Occidental, Tesda has devised a scholarship-based advanced contact center training program for the country’s call center agents.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate and speak English. Under this program, Tesda is offering 2,500 scholarship slots to those call center agents who complete up to a 100-hour call center finishing course. This course – the National Certificate II – includes training in communication skills and customer service, Tesda Provincial Director Lorena T. Yunque said in a press release.

The scholarship training is funded under the industry-based training for work scholarship program (I-TWSP) and co-managed with the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP), Call Center Association of the Philippines (CCAP) and the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information Technology (BNEFIT).  

Bacolod City has been ranked among the top three next wave cities by BPAP, and is host to major call center companies.

The scholarship aspirants are required to directly apply to Tesda-registered schools in Bacolod City. In the press release, Tesda provided a list of such schools that would accept the direct applications:

• Philippine Call Center Institute (PPCI) at Door 214 St. Jude Bldg
• Corner Gatuslao-San Sebastian Streets

• Lopues East Center Annex Building
• VMA Global College located at Orola Bldg, Rizal Street
• Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center (NOLITC) at Paglaum Sports Complex
• Hernaez Street

In La Carlota City, applicants may also apply at Lasaltech-La Carlota at Lopue’s Annex Building, Corner Mabini-JM Basa Streets.
