Carlton County flooding: Call Center Opens, Volunteers and Donations Needed

By Mandira Srivastava, TMCnet Contributor

Carlton County of Minnesota has been badly affected due to flooding this week. Since Saturday, relief workers have been providing help and access damage across Carlton County. According to an estimate, more than 750 Carlton County households are affected by the recent natural disaster.

According to a press release, not only a call center but a donation and flood assistance center has opened at the Cloquet National Guard Armory Sunday morning.

"People can call to volunteer or find out what donations are needed," said Carlton County Volunteer Cooordinator Jill Hatfield. "And people who need help or supplies after the flooding can just come in or they can call with questions."

If you wish to be involved with rehabilitation services or offer a donation, you can do so by dialing 218-384-1112. While the center is not accepting furniture or appliances as donations, those interested in donating can contact the call center and their items will be used the cleanup is over. The center will be opened from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. seven days a week.

The motive of opening call center is to provide a clearinghouse for all kinds of volunteers and donations. This particular case is in need of indoor and outdoor volunteers with a wide range of skills and donations. These volunteers are required to take simple responsibilities such as answering phones, complete data entry, handle the intake of donations, lift heavy items, and help individuals remove debris from their homes.

All volunteers must be registered through this center, which will be operated by volunteer services of Carlton County. Additionally, people can call with donations or bring donations to the center starting Sunday morning.

Hatfield added that the center will be updating the needed donation list frequently, with other needs including personal hygiene items, laundry soap, food, clothes and shoes in good condition, blankets, towels, etc.
