Okera Enhances Active Data Access Platform for Greater Visibility Into Data Usage and Governance That Scales

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 21, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Okera today released the latest update to the Okera Active Data Access Platform with version 1.2. Among the significant enhancements, the update includes interactive dashboards for governance and usage insight, comprehensive support for relational databases such as Snowflake and Redshift, and dynamic and scalable access control policies, as well as fine-grained administrative privileges that enable a distributed stewardship model.

Okera addresses the growing challenge in data management across heterogeneous compute, data stores, and formats by giving data consumers, owners, and stewards a unified platform for unlocking the value of data without compromising on governance or compliance.

The Okera Active Data Access Platform 1.2 offers organizations three key things: ability to secure and govern data from relational databases, enhanced security and governance controls to enable flexible and scalable stewardship models, and greater visibility into data usage with new auditing and reporting through interactive dashboards. The rich audit capabilities enable data administrators to better understand the usage patterns at a cumulative level to aid resource planning as well as adhere to compliance initiatives.

"It's surprising how many organizations lack the ability to secure, govern and get visibility into data usage. They lack controls around how data is used and visibility into what is actually happening. Most organizations are flying in the dark," said Amandeep Khurana, Okera CEO and co-founder. "W're offering a flexible way to secure and a faster and easier way to gain visibility and transparency into data usage."

To help large organizations scale access and governance policies with a data-centric approach, the Okera Active Data Access Platform 1.2 also abstracts the underlying source system complexity from the analytic applications. It provides a centralized way of managing access across a multi-tool, multi-data format, and multi-cloud environment. It also extends active data management to include support for data warehouses and relational databases both on-prem and in the cloud with full support for relational databases including Snowflake and Redshift as well as additional support for Spark 2.3 and Presto for EMR 5.16.

"Enterprises struggle with various systems, tools, and platforms, each with its own approach to access, governance, and auditing. Data management and governance across a distributed, heterogeneous enterprise is extremely complex," added Khurana. "We're helping organizations scale their access and governance with a data-centric approach. By abstracting the underlying complexity, the platform enables multiple analytical applications and tools with ease, while providing a centralized way of managing and governing access."

The enhancements further include new dynamic and scalable access control policies including new fine-grained administrative control privileges. For data administrators, complex data sets are reduced from hundreds of views into a single view that is created real time without any performance implication. There's more consolidation, less to maintain and it's easier to administer. This also means overhead can be reduced up to 80 percent and there's faster provisioning of data to data consumers.

The release also includes several performance enhancements to the overall platform and the various APIs it exposes.
