How to Improve the Functionality of Your Call Center Furniture

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

When it comes to the call center, and it's typically fast-paced, demanding environment, it's easy to over look the fact that without a strong call center furniture design, achieving efficiency and productivity can be impossible.

One element that is sometimes over looked is that of accessories and their ability to improve the functionality of call center furniture.

Call center furniture is designed to be strategically laid out and accommodate to a changing number of agents of all shapes, sizes and whose needs vary, in order to provide the most functional and cost effective way to optimize operations.

In fact, call center furniture can provide comfort, safety, a return on investment and also being environmentally sound.

Everything from ergonomic accessories to marker boards, tack boards and paper management systems can be added to a work area to enhance its functionality.

Marker boards can for example, be added on the outside of a run of stations to announce a meeting or performance goals or acoustic, tack-able panels can be added to not only allow agents to post items in their stations, but also to improve acoustics.

Paper management systems are also popular accessories as they keep work surfaces clear and let workers easily grab for things without having to stretch and reach to get to them.

To increase comfort, adjustable footrests can be utilized that relieve back stress, and increase circulation. In addition, adjustable keyboard trays relieve the worry of incorrect usage of a keyboard which can result in tension and eventually, repetitive stress disorders.  With these accessories, each user can adjust the furniture to best fit their individual needs. There are also gel filled wrist wrests to relieve tension and get support for resting wrists while typing or a gel filled mouse pad to provide support for the "tender carpal area."

Another available accessory, the flat screen monitor arm, not only keeps the monitor off of the work surface for more work room, but also saves energy-- which saves money.  The adjustable flat screen monitor arm can also be adjusted so neck strain doesn’t occur and the user's vision is not put at risk since there is no need to lean forward or squint to try and see the screen.

By adding these and other available accessories, it's possible to stop wasting space, and start being more productive.
