Want to Increase Productivity? Get New Call Center Furniture

By Stefania Viscusi, Assignment Desk Editor

Call centers play an important role in businesses today as they have become a central point of contact with customers. Not only is it necessary to employ agents with skills that meet customer needs, but furnishing and designing the call center to promote productivity and success is also key.

Interior Concepts, a call center furniture provider, was chosen by a call center in Zeeland, MI when they needed new furniture to improve working conditions in their facility.

To improve visibility, lighting, airflow and other issues in the building, Interior Concepts designed cluster workstations for them that not only improved the working environment for agents because they are grouped more closely together, but also, with lower workstation panels than before, they were able to improve air circulation, lighting and create less hot and cold spots. (see image below)

Even though each agents work space was reduced by 50 percent, they still have enough space to work thanks to monitor arms that lift computer monitors off the desk and improve ergonomics and make more work room.

To improve wire management, the call center was also provided with space behind each workstation that is hidden and can easily be accessed by the IT department when repairs or moves are needed.

With the cluster workstation, agents work more productively with each other and still have their own space. Also, supervisors are provided with a raised working height so that they are able to view the entire floor and all agents as they work and communicate with one another.  (see image below)

Finally to make the most of their space, Interior Concepts designed workstations along the wall and fit them for that space so that they didn’t extend out into the hallways or eliminate space. (see image below)

Not only has the center reported satisfaction with their newly designed call center from agents and supervisors alike, but because Interior Concepts meets LEED Indoor air quality standards and is MAS Certified Green, they are also happy to have created a much healthier work environment.
