Get Up, Stand Up: Stand Up For Your Health

By Chris DiMarco, TMCnet Managing Editor

There’s been a lot of discussion recently about how the sedentary nature of most desk jobs is doing irreparable damage to the workforce of the world and in particularly the United States. According to research collected by medicalbillingandcollecting.org, those who sit on average for 8 hours a day are more than twice as likely to develop heart disease. Even those of us getting the recommended half an hour of exercise daily undo the benefits with the astonishing 9.8 hours average of sitting we do a day. Even with the exercise, those of us sitting 6+ hours are 40 percent more likely to die within 15 years than those who sits less than 3. The bottom line is that sitting is slowly killing us, and while scary, there are steps you can proactively take to promote the health of you and your workforce.

While getting more exercise and sitting less are the first steps they’re not always possible when your agents are expected to combat the never ending tide of customer service inquiries. Ergonomics are an important part of the work environment, maximizing productivity by reducing the discomfort and fatigue associated with working long hours. But while ergonomically designed fixtures can help combat the evils of sitting at some level, probably the best answer to the issue are sit to stand work stations like those offered by interior concepts.

Interior concept’s “sit to stand” workstation provides both ergonomic support while sitting and the ability to raise the keyboard and monitor to standing so a rep can continue to work while reducing the amount of time they’re sitting down. This solves both the issue of productivity lost to discomfort as well as an increase promotion of the overall health of the rep.

“Our greatest strength is our ability to meet the varied needs of our customers, and provide each one with the exact furniture design that they need for their space, function, and budget,” said Marketing Manager Jennifer Way. “By customizing our furniture products in a timely and economical fashion, we are able to meet the ever changing needs of our customers.” That includes the increasing demand for office and call center environments that promote the health of workers.

The unfortunate fact is that sitting-related health issues are at critical levels in the US and have become increasingly impactful on the well being of the population. Interior concept’s adjustable, ergonomic, and affordable sit to stand desks promote both comfort and health at the office. Even If you can’t get away from your desk remember to get away from your chair for a quick and easy improvement to your health.
