The Telecom Expense Management Industry Association (TEMIA (News - Alert)) has asked its members to adopt Telecommunications Management as a new broad, umbrella term to describe the industry.
“We want to tell enterprises, if you do not have Telecommunications Management you are missing out; you are not getting the most value from your network nor are you running it most efficiently from a cost and performance perspective,” said Joe Basili, managing director at TEMIA.
For enterprises, the term Telecommunications Management encompasses all the activities that they undertake to manage mobile and fixed telecommunications network. In addition to savings, visibility, these activities include control for global communications services: telecom expense management (TEM), communications lifecycle management, wireless expense management (WEM), mobile device management (MDM), data and device security.
Erik Eames, managing director at Wireless Analytics, said that Wireless Analytics is embracing the term Telecommunications Management, because it believes that the new term successfully communicates the full range of capabilities offered by TEMIA firms, beyond traditional TEM or WEM.
Wireless Analytics provides outsourced mobility management services such as online visibility and reporting, wireless policy development, cost analysis, procurement, complete help desk services, inventory management, and carrier invoice management
“Adoption of this phrase provides an opportunity for firms to re-position themselves in a more strategic role with customers, expressing value beyond cost savings into performance,” Basili said.
In 2006, many of the prominent TEM solution providers teamed-up to establish TEMIA. The association aims to raise awareness, to improve the quality and value of solutions and to cultivate shared industry knowledge for TEM, communications lifecycle management, WEM, MDM and more.
TEMIA says that it seeks to do this through the development and promotion of open industry standards, and industry knowledge among solutions providers, business partners, telecom service providers, and enterprise clients.
Last year in September, TEMIA hosted a meeting to provide an opportunity for members to network, develop new partnerships, discuss ways to overcome industry challenges, exchange different views and learn about industry developments.
