In the golden days of business travel, employees zoomed from meeting to meeting in far-flung locations, meeting face-to-face with colleagues and partner companies. Nowadays, few companies can afford the kind of time and money required to keep their employees jet-set, and physical business travel is generally reserved for the most urgent meetings. At the same time, more employees are working remotely and collaborating across distances, which has raised the profile of video conferencing from “nice to have” to “essential business tool.”

San Jose, California-based Zoom Video provides remote conferencing services through the cloud. The company offers communications software that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration. Zoom Video recently added a large new customer: HSBC, one of the world’s largest banking and financial services organizations, has announced that it plans to standardize on Zoom on a large scale. The London-headquartered financial services company will connect 290,000 users and conference room connectors to over 5,500 hardware endpoints. BT Group is acting as the integration partner. Once the installation is complete, HSBC will be Zoom’s largest customer. HSBC is the seventh largest bank in the world, and the largest in Europe.

HSBC will consolidate allits communications services onto Zoom’s video-first unified communications platform, including video conferencing, audio conferencing, and screen sharing across mobile, desktop, and conference rooms, for both internal and external meetings. By standardizing on Zoom, HSBC will consolidate costs and create an enhanced, frictionless experience for end users.

“I am proud to welcome HSBC to the Zoom family,” said Eric S. Yuan, CEO of Zoom, in a statement. “My team looks forward to continuing to work with HSBC to provide their users frictionless communications experiences, quickly innovate new features and functionality, and deliver them happiness every day.”

Zoom’s success – the company has seen record growth as of late – is largely being attributed to very strong demand for video conferencing technology, particularly among large enterprise custo
