Why Your Business Should Consider VoIP

You may not use your phone to make and receive calls as much as you did in the past. But when you do, it’s probably for an important reason. And you need to be able to use it to reach people quickly and communicate with them clearly. After all, phone calls are still an important way people connect to do business.

Organizations deciding on business phone systems should consider what solutions best meet their needs. They have to choose between landline and VoIP. They need to decide what features they need and are able to pay for. And they ought to think about reliability and how landline and VoIP solutions compare on that front.

Landline phone services, as you may know, reliable on “nailed up” point-to-point connections. They typically run over copper wires. And they are sometimes also referred to as POTS or PSTN. (That stands for plain old telephone service and public switched telephone network.)

People have been communicating over landline connections for hundreds of years. So this is a proven and highly reliable setup. And business services running on landline connections may include such features as call conferencing, call forwarding, voicemail, and more.

Then there’s VoIP. Voice over IP traffic shares broadband connections with other traffic – including data and video. But because voice traffic is latency sensitive, VoIP solutions can do prioritization to make sure voice quality doesn’t drop beneath a set threshold.

VoIP is quite a bit newer than landline/POTS, PSTN, but it’s been around now for a good long time. So it’s proven.

In fact, many businesses already have adopted VoIP for its low capital and operating costs. VoIP is also attractive because it can scale as needed, support multimedia interactions, and deliver a wide array of features. That includes auto attendant, business integrations, call analytics, mobility and portability, softphones, and more.
