Portugal Telecom Taps AudioCodes

Portugal Telecom has chosen AudioCodes as its supplier for SIP trunking. The company is using the Mediant Multi-Service Business Routers and integrated session border controllers as part of its move to become an all-IP network entity.

The MSBR allow for remote management and support multiple redundancy circles. The SBC capabilities enable voice quality monitoring for better service level agreement enforcement.

"By bringing the AudioCodes vision of helping customers migrate from legacy to SIP trunking services, along with their extensive SIP interoperability and support for ISDN and WAN interfaces and flexible manageability embodied in their MSBR, AudioCodes is an ideal partner to collaborate with on this project."

Portugal Telecom, a member of the Altice Group, is the incumbent carrier in Portugal. It provides broadband, mobile, telephony, and TV services to consumers and businesses.

AudioCodes sells a range of solutions that support VoIP and converged voice and data implementations. In addition to the products noted above, that includes IP phones, media gateways, media servers, SOHO routers, mobile communications solutions, value-added applications, and professional services. Its revenues for the second quarter of this year were $38.7 million.

In addition to the deal with Portugal Telecom, AudioCodes is a suppler for a similar project at Deutsche Telekom. “This deployment is an important milestone for AudioCodes, as the Portugal Telecom project represents yet further proof of the industry trend towards an all-IP infrastructure and a validation of the role AudioCodes has to play in that trend,” said Shaul Weissman, vice president of  business development for service providers at AudioCodes.
