A company’s board of directors can make or break the organization’s success. Ideally, the board of directors should be comprised of the industry’s best minds, whether in terms of finances, strategy or so on. Choosing the right members to benefit a team is even more important when the company is a major player in its industry. If a company of high standing chooses the wrong person to make its decisions, that could drastically harm its reputation.

This is an issue RingCentral, Inc., a provider of cloud-based global collaborative communications and business VoIP solutions, faced recently. Ultimately, RingCentral opted to add Kenneth Goldman to its board of directors. Given Goldman’s impressive resume, it looks like this is one of the best decisions RingCentral could have made.

Most recently, Goldman was the chief financial officer (CFO) at Yahoo!, where he oversaw all global finance functions for the company. Despite recent security concerns at Yahoo!, there’s no denying that the company has been successful for some time now. And behind every successful company, there’s typically someone who knows their finances. For Yahoo!, that person was Goldman, and now RingCentral is looking to reap the benefits of his extensive financial leadership experience.

Prior to Yahoo!, Goldman served in chief financial officer roles for multiple enterprise technology companies, including Fortinet and Siebel Systems. At the moment, Goldman also serves on the board of directors of NXP Semiconductor, Trinet, GoPro, Inc., and not-for-profit boards such as the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Foundation Board. Goldman is also a member of the Standing Advisory Group of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Goldman has quite the resume when it comes to managing finances, making him the perfect person to help RingCentral drive its business VoIP business to even greater success. According to Vlad Shmunis, CEO, founder, and chairman of RingCentral, the company is confident that Goldman will be able to help it meet its goals. Shmunis stated, “Ken has an impressive background and depth and breadth of experience in scaling multiple technology companies…I’m excited to welcome him to our board of directors as we march towards our goal of achieving one billion dollars in revenue by 2020. Ken’s leadership will prove invaluable as we scale our business to meet our global customers’ communications and collaboration needs.”
