Redundancy is Key When It Comes to VoIP Services

There is very little doubt that the VoIP market is growing and that growth is leading to a number of problems popping up. That is why, as TechTarget points out, putting in a redundancy at the VoIP and network infrastructure levels is a part of the VoIP communication business that simply needs to be done.

Redundancy in VoIP networks simply makes it that much easier for businesses who have switched over to this tech from their traditional landlines don’t have to worry about their ability to communicate suddenly going away. Downtime when it comes to VoIP communication systems means losses as well as lost opportunities. Call continuity is something that every business should be aiming for and part of every firm’s communication plan.

There are a number of different components when it comes to a VoIP communication system. Each of these components provide a rather specific function that allows the system as a whole to bring communication front and center. The components that need the most redundancy are VoIP PBX, voice gateways and presence servers as well as messaging technology.

Perhaps the most important part of this system, the VoIP PBX, often referred to as the VoIP server is the processing unit that handles call routing, IP phone registration, user accounts, dialing privileges and other functions. Having redundancy in place when talking about the VoIP PBX is important because it means that incoming and outgoing calls are being routed to where they need to be, even if there is a problem with one of the PBX connections. For the most part, new technological advancements means that there is quite a bit of virtualization in this area. Depending on the vendor it is rather easy to combine virtualized servers with a number of physical servers. By doing this, redundancy can be achieved by using clustered virtualized servers. Not only will companies that go with this have those redundant PBXs but they will also be able to balance the user load between those virtualized servers.
