The growing demand for voice over IP applications has caused network communications companies to begin focusing more on call quality and the prevalence of dropped calls. ADTRAN is beginning to remedy the situation with additions to its VoIP switch portfolio in the form of the NetVanta 1510 and 1550 families of gigabit Ethernet switches.

The newest line of NetVanta switches are aware of when VoIP traffic is traveling through them, and compensate to meet the needs of that traffic. That means a higher uptime and voice quality alongside better network control for service providers. Todd Lattanzi, the director of product management at ADTRAN, spoke in his company's announcement about the voice communications standard and how ADTRAN is trying to raise the bar for the entire industry.

“ADTRAN is enabling VARs, MSPs, and carriers to build strong voice foundations for business communications networks, and we look forward to advancing performance levels even further as we set a new standard for voice communications throughout the industry,” Lattanzi said.

One of the most important features about NetVanta’s new switches is they allow for network control through cloud-based systems. The ADTRAN ProCloud cloud management services, which come complete with customizable dashboards for network management from any location, work directly with those Ethernet switches. It allows companies to build and manage a network that is the right size and is easy to manage.

With its release of the new NetVanta line, ADTRAN says it wants to continue its delivery of high-quality voice performance for its clients. It has been about a year since the communications company declared its intention to bolster its lines of Wi-Fi help desk, session border controller, and small business-focused Ethernet switches. However, there may be a gap in its services with regard to network functions virtualization and software defined networking. A part of the NetVanta line was on the docket for change, and now it appears ADTRAN is adding yet another element to its focus with VoIP. This concentration on multiple issues could provide the company with success in the future if it can deliver for small and large businesses, keep their voice and data quality high, and make sure that NFV comes along for the ride.
