Broadview Networks Provides Broadband Solutions Necessary for Cloud Computing

By Stefanie Mosca

Broadview Networks (News - Alert), located right outside New York City, offers cloud-based products worldwide, along with leading communication services to a number of areas in New England. While the company provides broadband solutions to rural areas as well, its most successful bandwidth services lie in metropolitan areas like NYC.

The company also provides hosted IP phones, Microsoft Exchange and Office applications, desktops in the Cloud, Software as a Service (SaaS (News - Alert)) offerings as well as broadband solutions such as telecom service business lines, T1s and higher speed data lines.

Broadview has been partnering with Actelis Networks for nearly five years to provide Ethernet over copper broadband solutions. Together, their solutions drive bandwidth needs for mobile workers to obtain broadband solutions regardless of the location.

Last week when Jeff Blackey, senior vice president of marketing at Broadview Networks spoke exclusively with TMCnet, he posed the question, “What good is bandwidth if you can only obtain it in one central location? While the central location needs the highest amount of bandwidth to power the others, you need bandwidth in as many locations as possible,” he added.

Broadview and Actelis offer broadband solutions ranging from 3Mbps to 30Mbps, but can actually accommodate for much higher network speeds as high as 100Mbps, utilizing its Ethernet over copper services.

Coincidentally, PAETEC (News - Alert) and Overture Networks just announced their ability to provide 100Mbps Ethernet over copper speeds with their combined solution; a feat Broadview and Actelis have already been providing for years now. In the past, people have questioned companies like Broadview and Actelis’ ability to provide such high speeds. However, Blackey said that given the right location, and depending on the needs of the customer, anything is possible.

Broadview prides itself in the breadth of cloud computing options it offers. “Most companies start by moving one application at a time to the cloud. We started with telephony, but have since moved into a full blown computing system,” Blackey said.

Broadview’s Exchange server also hosts entire desktops in the cloud so applications such as Microsoft (News - Alert) Office, any line of business apps, QuickBooks, etc can be hosted in the cloud.

One solution that Broadview offers that isn’t as prevalent in the market is the ability to customize a user’s virtual environment. One example Blackey pointed out is the capability to access your computer’s browser from the cloud. He mentioned that while some would argue that being able to access your browser virtually is unnecessary, Blackey notes that having access to your browser’s settings no matter what platform you are logging in from, allows users to access all of their favorites and additional settings whether at home, at the office or a different remote location.

This week, Broadview will be exhibiting at the Cloud Expo in New York City at the Javits Convention Center from June 6-9. A veteran of shows like Channel Partners and TMC’s (News - Alert) own ITEXPO, the company will have a booth on the show floor and Blackey said as a first time exhibitor to the Cloud Expo, Broadview is looking forward to meeting other telecom agents in the space and seeing what the show has to offer.

In the near future, Broadview plans on continuing to enhance its cloud computing offerings. Recently, the company has added a number of additions such as Microsoft applications like Microsoft Project as a part of its basic suite as well as Vizio. Broadview, which has been using Microsoft SharePoint for some time now, will also be making enhancements to its Office Suite platform along with its phone system features.
