An alarming trend is happening in the IT world; not only are attackers becoming stronger and bolder, but security breaches are becoming harder to detect and taking longer to resolve. These facts were brought to light in a CSG Invotas security automation survey, which was conducted by IDG.
“It is no longer a surprise to hear that a breach has compromised data related to customers, employees, or partners,” said Paul Nguyen, president of global security solutions at CSG Invotas.
According to survey results, 82 percent of respondents maintained that there had been no let up in security breaches in 2013 despite an increased investment to protect networks. What’s worse is that there was a reported increase in cyber attacks with breaches taking weeks and sometimes months to resolve.
Commercial organizations thus face challenges when confronted with security breaches across their networks, and are looking for ways to address risk mitigation, preserve a company’s reputation, and protect customer data. The report notes that sixty-one percent of respondents admit they are looking for ways to improve response times to security events.
“More companies seek security automation tools that will enable them to resolve breaches in mere seconds and help maintain business-as-usual during the remediation period,” observed Jen McKean, research director at IDG Research.

However, the survey indicates that a large majority of respondents are not entirely comfortable with automation for some low-level and a few high-level processes and still want security teams involved. Two-thirds are still to automate security workflows while 30 percent reported that their security workflows were automated.
